The mystery flier on Jeff Bezos’ West Texas rocket launch is an 18-year-old
Jeff Bezos’ rocket builder has selected an 18-year-old student to fly into space next week with the founder of Amazon.com Inc. and two others on the company’s first manned mission.
Oliver Daemen, who graduated from high school last year, will be the youngest person to travel into space, Bezos’ Blue Origin told in an email on Thursday. An anonymous bidder who has agreed to pay $ 28 million for a seat has a scheduling conflict and will take a future trip instead.
Crew members on next week’s mission aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard missile include Bezos; his brother Mark; Demons; and Wally Funk, 82, a former astronaut trainee. Funk will be the oldest person to fly into space, Blue Origin said.

Daemen was a bidder at the auction and had secured a seat on Blue Origin’s second flight, a company spokesman said. He was transferred to the mission next week when the place became vacant. Daemen plans to study physics and innovation management at Utrecht University in the Netherlands in September.
The New Shepard flight from West Texas “will fulfill a lifelong dream for Oliver who has been fascinated by space, the moon and rockets since he was four.”
