Vaccine Mandates on Third Special Session Agenda for the Texas Legislature – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
President Joe Biden is now urging companies with 100 or more people to request COVID-19 vaccinations or a weekly COVID-19 test.
“This is not about freedom or personal choice, but about protecting yourself and those around you,” said Biden as he set up a new COVID-19 plan.
While this is coming from the federal level, vaccine mandates in Texas are being discussed in the third special session of the Texas legislature. TX Senator Bob Hall (R-Edgewood) has already tabled a bill stating someone’s employment cannot be affected by vaccination status.
“Our first job is to protect individual rights,” Hall said.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has put some vaccination mandates on the agenda for the special session. According to the proclamation, the governor wants “laws about whether state or local government agencies in Texas can require a person to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and, if so, what exemptions should apply to such a mandate.”
Hall submitted two invoices in relation to this. You ban vaccine mandates all together, and that would include schools. A second provides for exceptions.
“If a local government makes a vaccine mandatory, they also have to accept exceptions. Religious exceptions, medical exceptions, and personal conscience, ”Hall said.
Some local lawmakers have expressed frustration at the loss of local control. Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitely believes the vaccine ban is another example.
“We still have to focus on local control and we have to stop this business, everything has to be decided by the party in power in Austin,” said Whitely.
This is only one of five items on the agenda for the third special session. The biggest is likely to be redistribution.
