Dallas Cowboys planning to bid to bring NFL scouting combine to North Texas

The Dallas Cowboys are planning to bid on the NFL scouting combine in hopes of bringing it to North Texas, a source told The Dallas Morning News.

For the past 34 years, the annual five-day event in Indianapolis has been all in one location, but the NFL informed clubs on Wednesday that it is accepting offers to move. It’s similar to what the league does to the Super Bowl and the NFL Draft.

North Texas hosted a Super Bowl and the Draft.

The combine will stay in Indianapolis next year, so the first year a new city could host is in 2023.

The Cowboys could host events in two locations: The Star in Frisco and AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

College aspirants could exercise at Baylor Scott and White Sports Therapy and Research at The Star, and even do workouts at the Cowboys facility across the street. The Cowboys’ training facility has two outdoor soccer fields and the Ford Center, where high school games are played, also has a soccer field.

There is a basketball court and a small soccer field in the medical facility that college candidates for the NBA and NFL have used to prepare for their respective drafts of their sports.

Of course, the Cowboys could all have workouts at AT&T Stadium, much like Indianapolis with Lucas Oil Stadium where the Colts play their games.

The Boy Scout Combine is more than just preparing college graduates. NFL teams hold meetings with NFL certified agents, numerous soccer vendors hold events to showcase their latest product lines, and agents have their annual meeting.

There are numerous meeting hotels in North Texas, including The Omni in Frisco and Loews Hotel, about three blocks from the AT&T Stadium, that would benefit from being close to the training and exercise venues.

In 2019, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported that local hospitality officials said the city of Indianapolis generated an estimated $ 8.4 million and generated nearly $ 10 million in media revenue from the merger.

Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna (98) arrives during team practice at the rookie mini camp at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Saturday, Jan.
