Bicentennial Park in Southlake receives regional award

Bicentennial Park in Southlake has received the North Region Park Design Excellence Award from the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS).

The community park serves as the hub for the activities of the Department of Parks and Recreation in Southlake.

“The multi-phase project for the implementation of the Bicentennial Park Master Plan has revitalized the park through years of careful planning, persistent teamwork and thoughtful design,” says a press release from the city.

Projects completed since 2008 include the opening of The Marq Southlake, the city’s community recreation facility; a Miracle Field, a playground for all abilities; and the tennis center.

“The award committee had many wonderful entries and it was a difficult task,” said TRAPS North Region in a statement to the city. “Your nomination stood out from the others to illustrate commitment and commitment in the field of parks and leisure.”

The park is part of the Southlake 2035 Comprehensive Plan, “which includes the vision, goals and objectives that define values in the community”.

In June, Southlake City Council passed the Parks, Recreation and Open Space master plan, which will install additional water bottle filling stations, upgrade the walkway system, and connect parks that are close together, and helped the project, according to the plan. A pickleball complex will also be added to the amenities in 2022.

“Thanks to these improvements, Bicentennial Park is the leading recreational destination in Southlake and serves as an example of successful national park redevelopment,” the press release said.
