HelloFresh Continues Its Fight Against Hunger During Hunger Action Month
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE) – As part of a nationwide initiative by Feeding America, Hunger Action Month is held in September to raise awareness of food insecurity in America. In honor of Hunger Action Month, HelloFresh, the global leader in meal kits, has continued its commitment to fighting hunger and providing fresh food to nutritionally insecure communities through a variety of initiatives including surplus food donations, the expansion of its free meal kit, Meals With Meaning program, and an increase in customer donations.
In September, HelloFresh donated around £ 500,000 of groceries to its 20+ different charity partners across the country. Additionally, HelloFresh saw customer contributions up 25% compared to previous months through advocacy and awareness programs focused on Hunger Action Month through its in-app program Meals with Meaning. As of early 2021, HelloFresh has provided the Feeding America network with around 1 million pounds of food and nearly 5.2 million pounds of food in total.
“Reducing food waste and tackling food insecurity are core values at HelloFresh and through our various social initiatives such as Beyond the Box we can address both issues,” said Uwe Voss, CEO of HelloFresh US. “We are very grateful to our various partners and our customers for helping us work towards positive, lasting change in our local communities.”
As part of its ongoing effort to support the communities it operates in, HelloFresh has launched several initiatives as part of its Beyond the Box program, including:
-
Network of Charity and Corporate Partners: HelloFresh works with over 20 partners in its network including food banks, food rescue organizations, corporate partners and local governments such as Second Helpings Atlanta (Newnan, GA), Table to Table (Newark, NJ), Pratt Industries, Standard Meat, We Don’t Waste (Aurora, CO), Tarrant Area Food Bank (Grand Prairie, TX), Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano (Richmond, CA), New York State Division of Veterans’ Services, City of Atlanta, and more . Every week HelloFresh identifies fresh food surpluses from its distribution centers, which are then distributed to local community members in need.
-
Meals That Matters: In 2020, HelloFresh launched meals that mattered in response to food insecurity exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program began delivering approximately 600,000 free food packages to families starving in Newark, NJ and Brooklyn, NY, and recently expanded to Dallas, TX and Atlanta, GA. The aim is to distribute at least 1.5 million meals by 2022.
-
Customer Contributions: HelloFresh customers have the option to gift a meal set to those in need by adding “Meals That Matters” to their HelloFresh menu choices. This option is offered every week through the HelloFresh market and enables customers to give away nutritious meals to households with food insecurity.
