July 4th Events Return to North Texas – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Many Independence Day celebrations are returning after the changes and cancellations forced by a pandemic last summer.

In Grapevine, Nash Farm opened the holiday weekend with the patriotic theme “First Friday on the Farm”. Cody Jolliff, manager of the Heritage Museum at Nash Farm, described the farm as a living history site based on 19th century craft and trade.

“Uncle Sam is here. We’re going to have all kinds of decorations and things that you would have seen in the 19th century, ”Jolliff said. “We like to go back to history, don’t we? Everyone does a lot of fun things everywhere. “

The five-acre farm operated during the pandemic and maintained social distancing guidelines, but Jolliff said as pandemic restrictions eased, the crowds grew.

“Because we’re outside – all of our historical outdoor sites – people feel more comfortable and we see more people outside,” he said.

Employees from Hop and Sting, a nearby brewery, also put the finishing touches on Friday’s July 4th preparation. General Manager Andy Yelton said while the brewery will be busy this weekend, Independence Day isn’t usually one of the busiest holidays of the year.

“Maybe it’s the top 5. There are certainly others bigger than that,” said Yelton. “We expect a large audience on Saturday lunchtime and we actually play Trivia every Sunday evening, so we’ll do it as usual. We’ll have a few extra patriotic prizes for everyone. “

Yelton said many people will likely be spending their actual vacation at home rather than in a business like theirs, expecting to benefit from the permanent introduction of take-away alcohol. In May, Governor Greg Abbott signed a law allowing customers to purchase sealed alcoholic beverages from companies across the state to take away.

“We’re going to have huge beer-to-go sales this weekend and it’s just going to be a normal party weekend for us. We’ll be jam-packed with live music and Texas barbecue, ”said Yelton.
