See how COVID cases on your child’s campus compare to other North Texas schools

Editor’s note: This page will not be updated with new status data after September 17th.

Almost every school in Texas has been hit by the ongoing pandemic, forcing some to suddenly close or reschedule classes online.

So how can I tell how my child’s school compares to others?

The Dallas Morning News provides this interactive dashboard to help parents and community members keep track of how their campuses and districts are doing compared to others in the North Texas area.

Families can see the number of cases reported per 1,000 students at a school to account for different school enrollment sizes.

This website is updated every Friday with state data from the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Education Agency. This week’s data includes cases reported to the state on Sept. 13.

A delay in reporting data and a potential difference in the types of tests reported to the state could add dramatic discrepancies in case numbers and cause confusion among parents in Texas.

Public schools are required to report cases to state and local health authorities. Many districts have their own dashboards that are updated regularly. The total number of cases includes cases reported since the beginning of the school year.

The DMN Education Lab deepens reporting and discussion on pressing educational issues that are critical to the future of North Texas.

The DMN Education Lab is a community-funded journalism initiative with support from The Beck Group, Bobby and Lottye Lyle, Communities Foundation of Texas, The Dallas Foundation, Dallas Regional Chamber, Deedie Rose, The Meadows Foundation, Solutions Journalism Network, Southern Methodist University and Todd A. Williams Family Foundation. The Dallas Morning News retains full editorial control over the Education Lab’s journalism.
