ARLINGTON, Texas (October 26, 2021) – In a pioneering partnership between Teton Ridge and PBR (Professional Bull Riders), the two iconic western lifestyle brands today announced a reunion between The American, the world’s richest one-day rodeo, and the first bull riding league. In 2022, the two leading hotels will team up again to host the ultimate weekend in western sports by bringing The American and 2022 PBR Global Cup USA to Arlington, Texas and AT&T Stadium from March 5-6 .
The American and PBR last met in 2018 for a historic weekend of western sports at the AT&T stadium. Throughout the weekend, PBR set a record for the most-attended one-day event in its league history, hosting more than 46,000 fans at the AT&T Stadium for the Elite Tour Major.
The partnership with PBR follows Teton Ridge’s latest move to bring The American under the brand and take it to a new level in March 2022, including an unmatched total budget of more than $ 3 million, uninterrupted rodeo action, Live music, entertainment and more.
A chance for the underdog
“In just nine short years since its inception, America’s payout winnings can rival those of the Kentucky Derby,” said Randy Bernard, vice chairman of Teton Ridge. “This revolutionary event is the first rodeo in the world that gives the underdog the chance to win more money in just one day than he could accumulate in a rodeo lifetime. Reuniting with PBR will expand this already immersive, iconic experience for fans into a great weekend showcasing athleticism and talent in Western sports. ”
“PBR is committed to transforming the western sports industry, and by partnering with Teton Ridge to reunite with The American, we will continue to provide the hardworking athletes in the industry with more competitive, high-income opportunities and continue to reach new audiences by bringing the Cowboy -Culture in an unprecedented way, “said Sean Gleason, CEO and Commissioner of PBR. “After the PBR Global Cup puts top bull riders from around the world in the spotlight and gathers participants and fans in the name of national pride, the American will crown the adrenaline-fueled weekend with life-changing prizes for dozens of cowboys and cowgirls. We imagine giving the fans a weekend with western sports like never before. “
Real open competition
As qualification events across the country progress, The American contestants will vie for what may be the greatest daily salary of their careers. The American was founded in 2014 and is hosted annually in the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. The American is a real open competition in format. The top-class event brings top professional rodeo athletes and honest, hardworking cowboys and cowgirls together for a showdown to crown the best champions in the world.
The American offers participants in all eight rodeo disciplines: Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping (Heading and Heinging), Tie Down Roping, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding and Bull Riding. Any qualifier who makes it to the 2022 final is entitled to $ 100,000 in prize money from their discipline and also has their chance to win the millions of bonuses.
In addition, for the first time in the event’s history, female runaways are eligible for the $ 2 million bonus.
Olympia of bull riding
At the PBR Global Cup USA 2022, which is known as the “Bull Riding Olympics”, five nations and six teams will fight for national pride and the title of “Toughest Nation on Dirt”. Teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico will try to upset the host nation Team USA, represented by Team Eagles and all Native American Team Wolves.
First held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 2017, the PBR Global Cup debuted in the United States in Texas at AT&T Stadium in 2019. Team USA made history when the event was last repeated in 2020 and was the first nation to win the international team event on home soil.
With a decade-long history of events at the AT&T Stadium, PBR welcomed the Iron Cowboy Major from 2010 to 2018 before hosting the PBR Global Cup in 2019 and 2020 and the first PBR World Finals outside of Las Vegas in 2020.
