Businesses Prepare For Busy Labor Day Weekend – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
Labor Day is dubbed the “unofficial end of summer” by some and companies are preparing for a few busy days.
Steve Lemons has worked in the bait and fishing shop behind Augie’s Sunset Café for more than eight years, and said this coming weekend could potentially be busier than past Labor Day holidays.
“If anything, we’ve drawn a lot of new people here and they’ll probably want to join in,” said Lemons. “We’ve all loaded up on our worms, lemonade, candy, water, bait, and gear.”
Unlike many companies, Lemons said they did not suffer any significant financial damage during the pandemic. Fishing is an activity that people can do outdoors and easily keep a safe distance from others, he said.
“Of course people do it without being told,” he said. “I have a feeling it is [weekend] It will be busier than last year. “
Eugene Garcia from Saginaw fished with his sister-in-law at the lake on Friday. Garcia said he often started fishing in the early stages of the pandemic after recovering from the virus.
“I would just come here alone or I have another place I would go and I would just fish there for a while,” he said. “I am a human being. I love talking to people, but every now and then it’s good to just be in a place where you can just relax. “
Before the holiday weekend, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Everyone – even vaccinated people – in areas with significant or high prevalence in the community should wear a mask indoors in public, the CDC tweeted Friday.
Public health executives also urge people to make responsible choices while planning vacation plans such as travel.
“Believe it or not, the risk of COVID transmission while traveling is more in the airport building than on the flights. The planes have these incredible air filtration systems and you are actually pretty safe flying them, ”said Dr. Saju Mathew, public health specialist. “Make wise decisions at the airport. Try to get on and off in congested areas. I wouldn’t necessarily stand in line or eat in restaurants because you have to take off your mask. “
The CDC added on Friday that the rate of hospital admissions for children 0-4 years old with COVID-19 increased 10-fold between late June and mid-August, while the Delta variant was widespread. They urge children to wear a mask and get vaccinated if they are eligible.
