COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements Possible At North Texas Concert Venues – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Hundreds are waiting for a concert at Trees in Deep Ellum on Saturday evening.

Although experts advise people to mask themselves because of the Delta variant, many of the people CBS 11 News spoke to did not have masks and some were not vaccinated.

Proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or negative test will soon be mandatory for most concerts across the country. This week, Live Nation, one of the largest concert and ticketing companies in the country, announced that it would require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test for all performers and concert-goers and staff in October.

Another major concert promoter, AEG Presents, goes one step further. They only let in fully vaccinated people.

Janessa Reyes is not vaccinated. She does not think the decision of the company is fair.

“It should be your right to do what you want,” said Reyes. “If you want to get vaccinated, get vaccinated, if not, then not.”

Christian Harper endorses the mandate. He says the decision will help save lives as the Delta variant inundates the country.

“If you get vaccinated, you are less likely to get COVID and if you do it won’t be that bad,” Harper said.

These new rules are against Texas law. According to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, state laws prohibit companies from requiring a vaccination.

Last night in Fort Worth, Billy Bobs Texas broke that rule for safety reasons. The hall was hosting a concert and asked for proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test because the performer asked for it.

“I don’t want to upset anyone, we’re a business, we’re not trying to be political, we’re not trying to make a political statement,” said Marty Travis. “We have interpreted the laws and mandates and addressed all the different levels of government and believe that we are entitled to do so.”
