Injury Update: Dallas Mavericks ‘Hopeful’ That Luka Doncic Can Return Against Clippers

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has missed the team’s last two games with sprains to his left knee and ankle, but the Mavs are hoping he can return for the upcoming games against the LA Clippers. After losing their last two games to the Phoenix Suns, Dallas will face the Clippers in consecutive games on Sunday and Tuesday at the Staples Center.

ESPN reported that Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said he and the team are confident that Doncic can play the Clippers on Sunday. There’s obviously a lot of history between Luka and the Clippers, with the two teams facing each other in the playoffs for years in a row. While the Clippers defeated Dallas in both years, Luka was simply dominant.

In last year’s first round match between the Clippers and the Mavericks, Luka averaged 35.7 PPG, 10.3 APG and 7.9 RPG. He was outclassed by Kawhi, who was ultimately better in the last decisive games; However, Luka left no doubt that he is the future of this league.

After the Mavericks lost games in a row and Luka was out, the Mavericks are currently 9-6, only half a game over the Clippers in the Western Conference standings. Though it’s only November, the NBA’s focus on reducing travel has created several of these miniseries, which often go a long way in determining the streak of the season between two teams. There is no question that Sunday and Tuesday will have mistakes in the Western Conference playoff picture between the Clippers and the Mavericks.
