“We owe high expectations to all students”

(CEDAR HILL, TEXAS) Two years ago Shameka Millner-Williams recorded a TED Educator Talk entitled “We owe all students high expectations”.

As part of the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) program, Millner-Williams received an invitation to the 2019 TED Conference in Edinboro, Scotland. She met executives from every industry and even one of the founders of TED, and also traveled to nearby England and France while in Europe.

Millner-Williams expects to adopt the same principles she shared in her TED talk in her new role as Cedar Hill ISD’s Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Assessment.

Millner-Williams joined CHISD in July after two decades in the neighboring Best Southwest counties. She previously worked at Lancaster (15 years) and Duncanville (five years).

Shortly after being hired, Millner-Williams experienced tragedy with the unexpected death of her husband Michael Williams.

“The CHISD team has been exceptionally understanding and very supportive,” said Millner-Williams.

Millner-Williams grew up in Dallas and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts in 1994. Her main interests in high school were choir and piano.

She comes from a family of educators, but had planned a double degree in music and architecture.

After earning an associate degree from Dallas College-Mountain View in 1996, Millner-Williams graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in interdisciplinary / elementary education.

Eventually she decided to become a teacher.

“I resisted it, but when I got into it I learned that I absolutely love it,” said Millner-Williams.

Her first job after college was at Duncanville Intermediate School, where she taught English / language arts and social studies for five years.

She then moved to campus administration as an Assistant Principal in Lancaster ISD. When she left Lancaster ISD 15 years later, Millner-Williams was promoted to interim superintendent.

Millner-Williams earned a Masters degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce and is currently pursuing a Masters degree from Liberty University. She expects to have it completed by December 2022 or May 2023.

Although she directed Lancaster ISD for nearly a year, Millner-Williams said her heart is in a behind the scenes administrative role, “developing teachers and principals,” though she will never say never when it comes to becoming superintendent again .

Millner-Williams roles include assessment, professional development, accountability, school leadership, and achievement.

“I have the ability to contribute and help CHISD take it to the next level,” said Millner-Williams. “I am excited to see what contribution I can make.”
