Newsmakers: Local journalist named first Latina president of SPJ

Kate Lattimore Norris was appointed Vice President of Pavlik and coworkers, a full service communications company. Norris has been with the company for more than 12 years, most recently as Director of Community Engagement.

In her new position, she was elevated to a leadership role in developing and implementing successful communication strategies for Pavlik’s cross section of public and private clients. She will continue to specialize in social engagement of all kinds.

She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Policy from the University of Texas at Arlington. Norris holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of North Texas and a BA in Art History and Religious Studies from Texas Christian University.

ARCHITECTURE

VLK Architects has promoted Dalane E. Bouillion, Ed.D., as Chief Development Officer in response to her excellence in supporting VLK’s commitment to combine teaching philosophy with purposeful design to better serve current and future educational clients.

VLK Architects has offices across Texas providing architectural, planning and interior design services to automotive, K-12, college, corporate and institutional clients.

She serves on the Board of Directors of Friends of Texas Public Schools. Her other affiliations include the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Association for Learning Environments. In 2011 she received the Woman of the Year Curriculum Award from the American Education Research Association.

In addition, representatives from VLK Architects attended a grand opening ceremony on August 26 to commemorate the new Sherman High School. This new building is 500,000 square meters, has space for 2,600 students in grades 9 to 12 and is part of the November 2017 bond.

Jeff Schmid has joined that Southwestern Graduate School of Banking Foundation (SWGSB), headquartered in Cox School of Business at SMU, as President and CEO with effect from September 1st. Schmid is changing as the current President and CEO S. Scott MacDonald, Ph.D., is leaving office after 24 years of service.

With nearly 40 years of banking and regulatory experience, Schmid began his career in 1981 with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and remained there until 1989. In 1990 he completed the SWGSB summer residency program at SMU Cox.

After completing the SWGSB program, Schmid became President and CEO of two closely related banks in the Midwest. In 2007 he led the founding of Mutual of Omaha Bank, wholly owned by Mutual of Omaha, where he served as chairman and chief executive officer. He built the organization into a national franchise with nearly $ 10 billion in assets.

Rebecca Aguilar became the first Latina National President of the Society of Professional Journalists in its 112-year history when she was sworn in by the SPJ national president Matthew T. Hall at the President’s awards ceremony during the recent SPJ21 conference in Indianapolis.

Aguilar, who is 40 years old as a journalist, works as a freelance reporter in Dallas. Her journey began as a news reporter for a television station in Toledo, Ohio. She also made professional stops at television networks in Chicago; Corpus Christi, Texas; San Antonio; Phoenix; Los Angeles and Dallas. On the way, she was awarded 50 prizes and nominations for her journalistic work.

Aguilar joined SPJ in 2009 when the Digital Media Committee asked her to help. She held management positions on the digital and diversity committees.

Aguilar is the daughter of immigrants from Mexico. She grew up in Ohio and Mexico City. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Bowling Green State University and her master’s degree in journalism from the University of North Texas.

EDUCATION

Barry Lambert, Ph.D., became interim dean of College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Tarleton State University, pending approval from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, which is awaited. He reaches Steve Damron, Ph.D., who retired on August 31.

Lambert, who was previously the college’s vice dean and vice president of research, joined the faculty in Tarleton in 2003 and was promoted to director of Southwest Regional Dairy and dean of the College of Graduate Studies. He also headed the Animal Science and Environmental and Agricultural Management departments.

HEALTH CARE

Lisa Albert was promoted to the AVP of Strategic Communications in Fort Worth TimelyMD, the leading telemedicine provider specializing in higher education. Albert joined TimelyMD in 2019 and is driving the communication strategies that bring TimelyMD’s mission, vision and values ​​to life.

As a past president of the PRSA’s Greater Fort Worth Chapter, Albert previously held senior communications roles at Texas Christian University, Justin Brands, Inc., and the Texas Ballet Theater.

Fleming’s previous roles include vice president, product management at Citi, general manager digital transformation at Baylor Scott & White Health, and chief technology officer at Three to Abandon. Courtney G. Lewishaving a senior vice president Bancorp South of the Fort Worth / Dallas area, is the new president of the Downtown Rotary Club Fort Worth for the year 2021-2022.

Installed July 1, President Courtney joins a long line of outstanding community leaders who are the first black woman to serve as president of the Fort Worth Rotary Club. President Courtney brings a new perspective on leadership that keeps Rotarians focused on their ministry and role.
