North Texas Families Prep for New International Travel Vaccine Rules – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

In less than a week, new vaccination regulations for international travelers to the US will go into effect. And already now some families from North Texas are preparing for the reunification in the coming weeks and months.

Ruby Bhandari said she and others are making sure their families in India are ready.

“You better have your T-lines and your ego is dotted because there is a lot of bureaucracy to travel now,” said Bhandari.

From November 8th, new guidelines will apply to international travelers flying to the United States. All adult foreign nationals must provide evidence that they are fully vaccinated and a negative COVID-19 test within three days of boarding a flight.

Fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents must also present a negative COVID-19 test within three days of departure – one day if not vaccinated.

Bhandari, a boutique owner, said Indian weddings are booming ahead of the holidays. Planners now have the burden of passing on important news about COVID-19 regulations.

“So now this coordinator has this extra job of sending a message with a list of things to do for every single person who comes from out of town,” she said.

While the rules feel like a burden to some, the excitement grows – so much so that social media groups have formed.

“There are different groups that actually talk about these things,” said Bhandari. “Indians in Dallas, Indians in Fort Worth, Indians in DFW, Indians in Chicago. Where everyone shares wonderful information. “

She said the goal now is to make sure no one is left in the dark and families can ultimately reunite.

“Seeing your parents and siblings is the biggest prize,” said Bhandari.

There are exceptions to the travel policy, such as: B. Vaccine allergies and humanitarian emergencies.
