“While advances were made in the non-alcoholic beers and spirits category, the wine world left a lot to be desired,” says Starla Founder & CEO Dawn Maire. “The journey to create the first premium alcohol-free wine began when I started replacing my beloved wine with better alternatives. I was surprised – and disappointed – with the lackluster options on the market. I saw the opportunity to meet the demands of the growing group of sober, curious and alcohol-free consumers with an authentic premium wine selection. Over a year in the making, Starla is the first non-alcoholic, professionally vinified wine – it is fantastic in the glass and goes well with food. ”
Entrepreneurs and wine lovers Dawn Maire and Jaime Coulter combined their collective talents from the CPG business and marketing with luxurious fashion design and branding to create Starla. With a foray into the beauty and fashion world, Starla is being stylized from a bottle to a brand. In addition to its trio of wine offerings, Starla will use its platform to showcase lifestyle content that spans fashion, music, wellness and some of the brand’s most popular non-alcoholic resources. Plug in the Starla playlist on Spotify while you clean up or hang out with friends.
“We built Starla from scratch and we really had fun with her. We wanted to radiate a consciously feminine lifestyle that you normally don’t see with other non-alcoholic offers. In addition to selling radical products, our website and marketing include highly curated editorial content – you can shop the campaign’s looks, create fabulous recipes, and read books and resources tailored to the stylish, alcohol-free consumer, ”says Starla Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Jamie Coulter. “Starla represents the inner star in all of us and his campaign illustrates how bright your life can be on your own terms without alcohol.”
Starla has teamed up with world-class, de-alcoholizing technology group BevZero to create its full-bodied, alcohol-free wine. The process begins with deliciously fermented wine made from carefully harvested California grapes and then uses innovative vacuum distillation technology to evaporate and remove the alcohol from the wine, leaving behind the original flavors and aromas. After the alcohol has been removed, less than half a percent (<0.50%) remains. The same amount of alcohol as kombucha. Starla's signature wines are rounded off with a touch of premium plants such as sweet gardenia, French lavender, wild honeysuckle and more.
“De-alcoholized and low-alcohol wines are driving the category and it’s a tremendous opportunity for young brands to make an impact,” said Debbie Novograd, CEO of BevZero. “We have seen a significant increase in consumers choosing healthier choices, especially women who make up 54 percent of wine buyers1, and yet until recently, few brands took advantage of existing innovation. Starla stands out from other brands in this area with an upscale, botanically enriched lifestyle brand that uses our vacuum technology. ”
