The Dallas Cowboys begin their training camp in Oxnard, California on July 21st. Everything you need to look out for is here, from storylines to battles for position.

Last year, the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t travel to training camp due to the pandemic we all faced. As things look better in 2021, there is a lot more normality in our world.

This includes teams like the cowboys being able to travel for their preseason work. Not only will it be head coach Mike McCarthy’s first trip to camp in Oxnard, California, but the team will have cameras everywhere while HBO is filming Hard Knocks.

For fans, that gives us a closer look at everything. But what do we have to pay attention to in the camp? This guide will cover the biggest storylines, position battles, and more as we get closer to Cowboys Training Camp 2021.

The 3 most important newcomers to the Dallas Cowboys

3. Damontae Kazee, free security

Dallas has neglected the security position for years and it’s hard to figure out why. Their secondary school continues to be lit and they fail to realize that this is a big reason for it.

Instead of targeting a big-name free agent or hunt for a top-tier talent early on in the drafting process, they continue to use late-round picks and cheap free agents. That year, Damontae Kazee was added as a player familiar with Dan Quinn’s defense.

Because of this, unlike George Iloka or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, the cowboys might keep him with them. If so, they might finally have a security guard who knows how to get the ball – a foreign word in Big D.

2. Brent Urban, line of defense

The defensive ends are strong in Dallas with DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory, but their inner line has some issues. The player with the most experience – and consistency in the NFL – is free agent addition Brent Urban.

Again, he was a deal signed guy, but his ability to stop the run is underestimated and he could end up being a bargain.

1. Micah Parsons, linebacker

We can argue all day about whether or not the cowboys should have taken a linebacker in 12th place when they had so many other needs, but that’s a moot point. You made your choice, and the good news is Micah Parsons is an elite talent. And if it wasn’t for bad taste on everyone’s lips, thanks to the double demise of Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch, the cowboy nation might actually be upset about it.

Parsons may be a beginner, but he will be a player to rely on from day one. That defense was terrible in 2020 and they need a man who can do it as well as Parsons to get things going.
