Suffolk Selected as Design Builder of the Child Development Academic Facility at Los Angeles Community College District’s Pierce College

THE ANGEL–(BUSINESS WIRE) – Suffolk, one of the most innovative and successful construction and real estate companies in the country, has been selected to build a one-story, 10,000-square-foot school for child development at Pierce College in the Los Angeles Community College District in Woodland Hills, California. The $ 14 million project is currently in the first draft phase, and construction is slated to begin in 2022 and completion is scheduled for 2023.

The Pierce College Child Development Academic Facility, designed by RACAIA Architecture & Interior Design and Hawkins Brown, will bring a new, modern facility to campus for use by students and faculty in the college’s child development and early childhood education program. The project will create five classrooms and labs, as well as consolidated departmental offices, a boardroom, computer room, and additional common areas, all adjacent to the operational Pierce College Child Development Center, giving students access to real-life classroom situations with children through observation or hands-on experience.

“The Child Development and Early Education Program at Pierce College is an important program that not only supports the local community but continues to educate the next generation of child educators,” said Ken Summers, general manager of Suffolk Los Angeles. “The addition of this state-of-the-art academic child development facility opens up new opportunities for students and faculty, and we are proud to be part of a project that will continue to play an important role for future students.”

As a design builder, Suffolk works with the Los Angeles Community College District to provide the academic facility from project design to project completion. This project is noteworthy as Suffolk continues to innovate in the educational construction sector and recently supported the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College with an 87,000 square foot renovation and 13,000 square foot extension and upgrading the building to earn LEED Silver certification. To date, Suffolk has completed 250 college projects and allocated $ 3.75 billion to college projects.

“As colleges continue to evaluate and adapt to the challenges of the pandemic, we are now seeing increasing demand for construction projects across the western region,” said Karri Novak, vice president, Suffolk Construction Los Angeles. “At Suffolk, we are well equipped to meet the changing demands of the education system by helping to build, renovate and modernize facilities that will support students and faculty for years to come.”
