Trinity Christian shows dominance in scrimmage with Mundy’s Mill

After returning to win the 2020 State Championship just a few games before beating Prince Avenue Christian, the Trinity Christian Lions started a new day of promotion after completing that game. They closed their preseason camp on Friday night by hosting Mundy’s Mill Tigers.

In the scrimmage, the Lions dominated the Tigers from start to finish on their way to a 47-6 win.

After a slow start on the offensive, David Dallas and the Lions found a rhythm on their second drive. Faced with a third and sixth, Dallas Lane hit Werling on a swing route and the junior receiver did the rest. He plowed through the Tigers’ defensive backs to move the chains.

Attacking highlights included Dallas hitting wideout Aaron Gates in a 53-yard game on a post route. As the game progressed, the Lions offensive line created a perfect bag for Dallas to jump into the throw. He also found a wide open Javan Harrison for a 36 yard touchdown pass.

Robert used his legs as well, scoring two dazzling touchdowns. He was one of the first to search the field from his pocket for an open receiver, but sunk the ball and ran untouched into the end zone, where he casually passed the ball to the official. The other was a designed run in which Dallas carried a Tigers linebacker into the end zone. The work in the weight room was felt in the Lions roster all night.

Tailback Dominick Cosper also added an explosive 16-yard touchdown run through half of Mundy’s Mill on defense.

Defensively, Bryce Wilcox set the tone with a huge ball-strip tackle on a Tiger receiver, which Gates was able to win back. Shawn Braxton was later able to add a touchdown after a defensive fumble recovery and Jimbo Batchelor added a score from an interception.

In total, Dallas completed 15-of-20 for 240 yards and one touchdown and four times for 38 yards and two touchdowns. The defense ended with five ball losses and two own touchdowns.

After the game, Coach Dallas shared, “Scrimmages are what they are, they are opportunities to make sure you get it all back-to-back, and for us we had some specific things that we wanted to see with our backups. But it was a good night and our children played well. Now is the time to prepare for the Athens Academy. ”

Trinity Christian will travel to the Athens Academy for the regular season opener this Friday evening.
