Wildcats in the NFL – Week 7


MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week for the 2021 season, k-statesports.com rounds up the action of the 16 former Kansas State Football players currently in the NFL.

Deante Burton, DB – Dallas Cowboys

Burton is on the Cowboys training team for his fourth NFL season. Dallas, who are 5-1 this season, were free last week and will travel to Minnesota on Sunday night.

BJ Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers

Finney, who is in his sixth NFL season and fifth with Pittsburgh, and the Steelers said goodbye last week. Pittsburgh go into the 8th week with a 3-3 record and face the AFC North enemy Cleveland on Sunday.

Wyatt Hubert, DE – Cincinnati Bengals

Hubert, a Cincinnati round seven draft pick in this year’s draft, was injured during the offseason and is in injury reserve. The Bengals improved to 5-2 that year with a 41-17 win in Baltimore. Cincinnati travels against the New York Jets on Sunday.

Elijah Lee, LB – Cleveland Browns

Lee, who is in his sophomore season at Cleveland, played 16 special team games to help the Browns beat Denver 17:14 on Thursday night. Lee has four defensive tackles and a special team stop this year. Cleveland improves the season to 4-3 and welcomes Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks

Lockett, who was running for the 78th time in his career, made two catches for 12 yards in Seattle’s 13:10 home defeat to New Orleans on Monday night. It was the Seahawks’ third consecutive setback, down to 2-5 that season. In seven games that year, Lockett has 29 receptions for 437 yards and three touchdowns. Seattle will try to crack that skid by receiving Jacksonville on Sunday.

Cornelius Lucas, OL – Washington Football Team

Lucas, who is in his sophomore year with Washington and eighth overall in the NFL, made his second direct start and 24. The football team, now 2-5 this season, will travel to Denver on Sunday.

Briley Moore, TE – Tennessee Titans

Moore, a rookie free agent signer for the Titans last off-season, was injured during training camp and was placed in the injury reserve. Tennessee improved to 5-2 that season with a 27-3 win over Kansas City, and the Titans head to Indianapolis on Sunday.

AJ Parker, DB – Detroit Lions

Parker was a freshman free agent that year, counting four tackles and one pass disruption in Detroit’s 28:19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Parker ranks fourth on the team with 27 tackles – including one for a loss – and a pass breakup. Detroit fell 0-7 in the season before Philadelphia hosted it on Sunday.

Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs

Pringle got away with 73 yards given yards on five catches, the latter being the second highest of his career. Pringle has 334 kickoff return yards this year, ranking third in the NFL, in addition to 17 catches for 243 yards. The Chiefs dropped to 3-4 in the year and they host the New York Giants on Monday nights.

DJ Reed Jr., DB – Seattle Seahawks

Reed made his 17th career start and carded two tackles on Monday night in Seattle’s 1:10 home defeat to New Orleans. In seven games this year, Reed has 43 defensive stops to finish fifth on the team while having both interceptions from Seattle in addition to three passes. Now 2-5 this season, the Seahawks host Jacksonville on Sunday.

Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos

Risner made his 38th career start and was there for all 50 offensive snaps in Denver’s 17:14 loss in Cleveland on Thursday night. Risner has seen 2,351 of the 2,551 offensive snaps (92.1%) of the Broncos time since his career began in 2019. Denver is in the middle of a four-game skid to drop its record to 3-4 and the Broncos are hosting Washington on Sunday.

Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears

Shelley made the fifth start of his career and third this season when he got away with three tackles and one pass resolution in Chicago’s 38-3 loss at Tampa Bay. Shelley is fifth on the team with 23 tackles that involve two pass breaks. The Bears, now 3-4 this year, welcomed San Francisco on Sunday.

Elijah Sullivan, LB – Kansas City Chiefs

Sullivan, a rookie free agent who was with San Francisco the entire preseason, was inducted into the Chiefs training team on September 11th. Kansas City dropped to 3-4 this year after a 27-3 setback in Tennessee, and the Chiefs are hosting the New York Giants on Monday night.

Kiondor Thomas, DB – Los Angeles Chargers

Thomas, a rookie free agent who spent the entire preseason with Cleveland, was inducted into the Los Angeles Chargers training roster on September 6th. The Chargers, 4-2 this year, were off last week and welcomed New England on Sunday.

Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears

Whitehair made his 85th career start and was involved in all 66 offensive snapshots in Chicago’s 38-3 defeat at Tampa Bay. The Bears are now playing 3-4 this season and will host San Francisco on Sunday.

Jordan Willis, DE – San Francisco 49ers

Willis, a defensive ending who joined San Francisco in the middle of the 2020 season, ended his six-game suspension at the start of the 2021 season and was activated for the 53-man roster on Monday. The 49ers dropped to 2-4 a year after a 30:18 home defeat on Sunday night against Indianapolis and will travel to Chicago on Sunday.
