5 Killed in 3 Separate Crashes Overnight in Dallas – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The night before Thanksgiving was a very fatal night on the streets of Dallas, with five people killed in three separate accidents.

INTERSTATE 30 NEAR DOLPHIN ROAD

At 12:09 p.m. Thursday, representatives from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office were called to a major accident along Interstate 30 near Dolphin Road. Although MPs didn’t arrive until 12:37 p.m., they stopped to find the Dallas Fire Rescue had arrived and confirmed that two people had been killed and two men injured.

Officials have not disclosed the identities of the two people killed, but said they were a 46-year-old black and a 45-year-old white who both drove in a gold 1998 Toyota Camry. The identity of the women is made public after their families are informed of their death.

Before the deputies arrived, the DFR transported a seriously injured man who was in the passenger seat of the Camry.

Police have not released details of what led to the accident, but they said a man named Travoris McFadden was arrested at the scene and is charged with double charges of vehicle manslaughter. McFadden is currently being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center. A deposit amount was not set and it is not clear if he hired an attorney.

A man driving McFadden’s Chevrolet Tahoe was hospitalized in stable condition.

GOOD LATIMER EXPRESSWAY

Dallas police say two men were killed in a car accident at around 2:16 a.m. Police said the men were traveling south on the 1600 block of the South Good Latimer Expressway in a gray 2015 BMW M4.

According to police, the driver lost control and collided with a building and then a power pole. The vehicle then caught fire.

Dallas Fire Rescue arrived and announced that both men had died on the scene. The identities of the men will be released after their families are informed of their deaths.

INTERSTATE 30 NEAR THE GRAND AVENUE

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office MPs were called to help a driver on East Interstate 30 Service Road near Grand Avenue at 3:51 a.m. when they saw a beige Toyota Tacoma shift from the left center lane to the far right Changed lane. MPs said the Toyota never slowed down and hit the rear of a white semi-trailer.

The MPs left the assistant driver and went to the Toyota to check on the driver. Upon arrival at 3:53 a.m., the driver of the 1999 Toyota Tacoma got stuck in the truck and did not respond.

Police broke open the passenger-side window to try to reach the driver. Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived at 3:59 a.m. and confirmed the driver had died.

The truck occupants, a 33-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, were transported to Baylor Medical Center in stable condition. A third occupant of the semi-trailer remained on site.

The identity of the Toyota driver will be revealed upon notification to the family.

STATE TROOPERS SPREAD PATROLS VIA THANKSGIVING

The Texas Department of Public Safety said more state troopers will be enforcing traffic laws from Wednesday through Sunday. In addition to exceeding speed limits, the soldiers will focus on people who are not wearing seat belts, are driving drunk and are not following the “Move Over, Slow Down” law for emergency vehicles.

The majority of the people who travel in Texas on this Thanksgiving holiday – 96% of them – are more likely to drive than fly, according to the AAA Texas. The organization predicts that 2021 will see the highest increase in Thanksgiving travel in a year since 2005.

“There will be more people out on Thanksgiving and it’s important to remember that it is up to each of us to keep the roads safe,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “DPS will do its part to keep Texas safe by holding people accountable, and we want everyone who goes on vacation to do their part by complying with all traffic laws so that everyone gets to their destination safe and sound comes.”
