You saw many particularly close hugs at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday.
Many people first saw their loved ones after being separated during a pandemic.
“Miss her and miss all of my family,” said Frances Norris, who picked her sister up from the airport. “It was a tough time, but it’s coming to an end.”
“We’re big hugs so we miss hugging,” said Norris’ sister Prather McKinnon.
They could also see signs of excitement from other families.
Bob Schaeffer and his wife greet their college daughters with hand-decorated posters.
They’ve only been apart since August, but they still cherish every moment to get back together during these uncertain times.
“I know COVID has not been kind to a lot of people, and I think everyone across America is relieved to be reunited with loved ones and just share that experience,” said Bob Schaeffer.
“With COVID and everything, it’s so hard to see the family as a whole and the fact that we can travel like this again and come home after so long in college, it’s a really nice ‘feeling,” said Schaeffer’s daughter Laura Schaeffer.
Whether separated for a few months or over a year because of the pandemic, they all have a little something extra to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
“Family, health, things are getting better and things are looking up so I’m grateful for that,” said Norris.
