Heaven won a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend with the death of Dallas Winter on July 7, 2021 at the age of 94. Dallas was born in Canton, IL on February 27, 1927, to Nelson and Carrie Winter. Dallas had a deep love for his country and entered the Navy at the age of 17 during World War II, where he proudly served in the fighter aircraft division before moving to the reserves after the end of World War II.
He met the love of his life and his 72-year-old wife, Mary Lou Winter, while both attending Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Dallas was a high school science and chemistry teacher and was a chemist with Shell Oil before moving to Ponca City, where he worked as a research chemist for 24 years before retiring and pursuing his passion for restoring classic cars. Dallas loved to travel and explore and it was this love that led him to travel to all 50 states and 33 countries during their marriage with his wife. Dallas also loved giving back through volunteer work, including Church-sponsored missionary trips to Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Alaska.
He was an avid sports fan and would often sit in the stands or on the sidelines of his family’s sporting events cheering them on until his health prevented his personal participation, but he was always eager to hear about it.
Dallas leaves behind his wife Mary Lou Winter, daughters Marsha Ward, Krista (Don) Roberts, and son Gary Winter. He was so proud of his five grandchildren, Jennifer (Landon) Hubbart, Whitney Guild, Julie (Jared) Wilson, Heather (Tyson) King and Kelsey Roberts, and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Ponca City on July 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. After 1:45 p.m., click the live stream or toolbar icon in the upper right corner
Preparations are being conducted under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
