Frisco RoughRiders’ game vs. Northwest Arkansas postponed Tuesday after more positive tests
The COVID-19 problem at Double-A Frisco is widening.
After playing with a limited squad on Sunday after a member of the team tested positive for COVID-19, the RoughRiders series in northwest Arkansas was postponed when further tests were positive on Frisco’s squad.
In a statement Tuesday, Rangers used MLB’s operational words on the COVID-19-affected games: “an abundance of caution”.
“The Rangers and RoughRiders have consulted with Major League Baseball during this process to ensure that the health and safety of players and staff is paramount,” the statement said.
“Planning updates will be provided as soon as they are available.”
The RoughRiders did not travel on Tuesday and will not travel until they are confident they can set up a roster and play a game. The RoughRiders made no squad moves on Tuesday due to the postponement of the game.
According to a source, the RoughRiders had exceeded the MLB threshold for loosening the protocols. The thresholds require 85% of staff and players to be vaccinated. According to the source, the current roster and staff had exceeded 90%.
On Saturday, Frisco took the unusual step of catcher Jordan Procyshen coming out from behind the plate to throw in the middle of an inning. Procyshen had appeared in three previous games but hadn’t moved out from behind the plate in the middle of the inning.
The Rangers have had no COVID-19 issues this year. However, Philadelphia recently had to close its spring training facility in Clearwater, Florida, where its Lower Class A and Florida Complex League teams are located, for four days due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
