Here are five things to watch when the Texans travel to Arizona for a Week 4 matchup with the Cardinals.

5) New returnees – In addition to the release of Mercilus this week, the Texans also parted ways with returnees Andre Roberts. Special Teams Coordinator Frank Ross stated that DB Tremon Smith, DB Desmond King II, WR Danny Amendola and RB Scottie Phillips are among the options for Houston to return kickoffs and punts. Ross also detailed what the team needs from whoever does the job.

“Speed, the ability to play fast and attack downhill through coverage is what we expect from these guys,” said Ross.

When he brought his punts back the preseason, King was electrified. He returned a punt at Green Bay for 43 yards and a kickoff for 29 yards. King followed suit the next week with a 24-yard punt return in Dallas.

“Desmond has experience in the NFL,” said Ross. “Has some really good make-miss skills and his ability to find his way through reporting. We saw a bit of that last season.”

If he gets the chance to return again, King greets the opportunity and says that he picked up a thing or two from Roberts.

“Having Andre here definitely helped me when he walked in,” said King. “He’s a multi-year veteran. Learning from him has definitely helped me a lot. Now it’s my turn to take this over and do whatever I can to help the team.”

In his regular season career, King’s returned two punts for touchdowns, averaging 8.9 yards per punt return.
