Hill Country area coasts onto list of 10 most affordable lake towns
Sea life attracts many of us. But living by a lake can be an expensive endeavor, with homes on lakes like the nearby Kingdom of Possum grossing well over $ 1 million.
A city not far from Dallas-Fort Worth, however, Realtor.com’s new list of the 10 cheapest seaside towns in the US Marble Falls, a hill country community about 200 miles southwest of Dallas (50 miles northwest of Austin), appears 10th place in the ranking. Sandusky, Ohio, on the shores of Lake Erie, is number one.
Marble Falls, located on Lake Marble Falls and near Lake LBJ, “is becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in the central part of the state,” notes Realtor.com.
“The city and surrounding lakes – which are actually dams in the Colorado River – have become an increasingly popular second home. [People] can play on the lake, ride horses or follow off-road jeep trails without losing access to high-speed internet and other urban amenities, ”the website says.
However, some people may argue whether Marble Falls is really affordable. Realtor.com lists the average list price of a home at $ 559,550. However, this home probably has a lot more land than you would get in Dallas or Austin for the same price.
“People realize they don’t have to be in town or in the suburbs so they can be outside,” Stephen Bednarski, a real estate agent at Mark Martin and Co. of Bee Cave, told Realtor.com. “For the same money you can get bigger tickets, but still have access to everything you need.”
