Long-Awaited Reunions At DFW Airport After COVID-19 Travel Restrictions Eased – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth
DFW AIRPORT (CBSDFW.COM) – For the first time since Christmas 2019, a mother saw her daughter.
A grandmother was introduced to her grandson.
The reunions and launches took place on Monday, November 8th, in the arrivals area of Terminal D at DFW Airport, the first day that non-essential travel restrictions for people from dozens of countries were relaxed.
The airlines had to provide proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test for travelers over 18.
With that, Cecilia Uchimoto was finally able to fly with her son from El Salvador to see her mother in Seagoville.
Haruki was born in February 2020 and they had planned to visit this spring.
“But it never ended,” she said on Monday. “Now that most people have vaccines, here we are.”
Gloria Carmona last saw her mother when she flew home to Mexico after the vacation in 2019.
When she heard the restrictions were being relaxed, she quickly began to take precautions.
“I planned the trip to arrive today,” she said.
It won’t go that fast either, staying until January to make up for lost time.
Travel traffic from international destinations is expected to continue to pick up well into next year.
Domestic travel is also increasing.
DFW Airport announced on Twitter on Monday that it expects the terminal garages to be full or almost full in the week of Thanksgiving and well into December.
