McKinney retirement community will create hundreds of homes on an 11-acre lake

A new senior community will emerge in McKinney that will create more than 400 residences in a park-like setting overlooking an 11 acre lake.

Touchmark on Emerald Lake will be located at 350 S. Hardin Blvd., just south of Virginia Parkway. The 81 acre development site is located west of US Highway 75.

Dallas-based architect Three designed the senior community. It’s a project by the Oregon-based Touchmark Communities.

The first phase of the McKinney development will include 149 self-contained residential apartment buildings, six duplex casitas, 84 assisted living and 32 nursing homes. The houses should be ready for occupancy in 2023.

“The opening of our first community in Texas is an opportunity to build the largest and most exciting project in our 40-year history,” said Marcus Breuer, CEO of Touchmark, in a statement. “Given the remarkable landscape and numerous attractions nearby, we are excited to create a retirement environment that is unlike anything we’ve developed before.”

Andres Construction is the general contractor for the project. Together with the architect Three is the interior design firm StudioSIX5 and the landscape design will come from Talley Associates.

The community will include outdoor activities by the lake and on the hills, as well as several indoor and outdoor restaurants. Future construction is planned to add a health and fitness center with pool, spa, salon and restaurants, as well as additional apartments.

Beaverton, Oregon-based developer Touchmark has built 13 churches in nine states and Canada since 1980.
