Newsroom – American Airlines Honors Veterans Today and Year-round

In recognition of the service and sacrifice of those who served our nation in the military, American Airlines jointly hosted two special events to create a weeklong Veterans Day celebration. Salute to the Troops and Seats 4 Soldiers were paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but resumed this year to provide a unique experience for dozens of veterans and active service members.

“At American Airlines, honoring our military and veterans is part of our DNA. We pride ourselves on employing thousands of veterans, and it’s deeply ingrained in our culture to honor their sacrifices year round, ”said Chief Operations Officer David Seymour. “For us, Veterans Day is really every day.”

Last weekend, American partnered with MGM Resorts, the USO, Executive Chef Robert Irvine, the Gary Sinise Foundation and others to bring 95 war wounded and their guests a special five-day experience in Las Vegas for the 12th Annual Salute to the Troops event.

On November 4, wounded, sick and injured soldiers from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and guests traveled to Las Vegas on an American charter flight. Upon arrival, participants were warmly welcomed by American team members, USO volunteers, local first responders and fellow travelers during a welcome ceremony in the terminal and on the tarmac.

During their time in Las Vegas, the veterans were greeted with a series of special events, the Terry Fator Show, a tour of the Hoover Dam, gourmet meals, VIP experiences, and a concert by Gary Sinise and Lt. Dan Band spoiled.

“American’s commitment to recognizing our nation’s greatest heroes is not just a promise we keep once a year around Veterans Day,” said Randy Stillinger, manager, Military and Veterans Initiatives. “Airline team members work year round to recognize and honor those who have helped fulfill our purpose of caring for people in their lives.”

At the end of Veterans Day weekend, American will partner with the Dallas Cowboys on November 14th in the 16th annual Seats 4 Soldiers event. American is excited to add the Dallas Cowboys to its Seats 4 Soldiers this year. A group of 40 wounded soldiers from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio will visit AT&T Stadium to watch the cowboys battle the Atlanta Falcons in a fully equipped VIP suite.

Guests of Honor will travel from San Antonio to Dallas-Fort Worth on a chartered Envoy Air flight before receiving a special greeting and transportation to the game where they will be recognized during and after the game. Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Drew Pearson will join service members for the game.
