Northern Ireland rocked as Stuart Dallas is ruled out of crucial World Cup games for ‘personal reasons’

Northern Ireland was shaken by news that Leeds United star Stuart Dallas was banned from the crucial World Cup qualifier in Lithuania on Thursday night.

Dallas, who did not travel to Vilnius with Ian Baraclough’s injured squad on Wednesday morning, will suspend the Group C showdown on “personal reasons”.

The versatile 30-year-old, who captained his country against Malta and Ukraine earlier this summer, will also miss next week’s home qualifier with Switzerland in Belfast.

Dallas joins Jonny Evans, Corry Evans, Josh Magennis, George Saville and Liam Boyce on Northern Ireland’s long list of absenteeism.

Leicester City defender Evans drops out of this month’s triple header as he recovers from a foot injury.

Millwall midfielder George Saville has been banned from traveling to Vilnius while Hearts striker Boyce has been excluded from this month’s games for family reasons.

Confirming Dallas’s enforced absence, boss Ian Baraclough said: “Jonny Evans and brother Corry will miss the triple header due to injury, while Stuart Dallas has also stepped down for personal reasons.”

After losing 2-0 to Italy in Parma and a goalless home draw against Bulgaria in March, the team have one point from their first two games in Group C.
