Spirit cancels half its flights on Thursday as travel woes enter fifth day

Spirit Airlines travelers experience travel problems for the fifth straight day as flights continue to be canceled.

On Thursday, the airline canceled 412 flights, or 52% of its flights from noon CT, according to FlightAware.

The low-cost airline has canceled or postponed more than 1,700 flights since last weekend, leaving travelers stranded in the US due to weather issues, technology outages and staff shortages.

CNBC reported that the Florida-based airline’s cancellations account for more than 80% of all flight cancellations in the United States

According to its website, Spirit advises passengers to check their emails and flight status before heading to the airport as they are dealing with “operational challenges”.

The company also recommends using its chat facility to “get the fastest way to get help”.

Earlier this week, Spirit had to cancel 60 percent of its flights, USA Today reported.

Spirit wasn’t the only airline struggling with delays this week.

American Airlines canceled around 379 flights on Monday.

USA Today reported that their cancellations were caused by storms hit the Dallas / Ft. Area worth it.

They have since recovered and, according to FlightAware, only 1% of flights were canceled on Thursday.
