‘The Wall That Heals,’ Makes Texas Stop on 2021 Tour – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, is making its only stop in Texas this week on its 26th annual national tour.

The Wall replica will spend four days in Sulfur Springs November 4-7 and can be found on the Sulfur Springs High School Track at 1210 Houston Street.

The wall is open to visitors around the clock and is illuminated at night. Taps is played on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 6 p.m. The wall will be closed to visitors on Sunday at 2 p.m.

“The traveling exhibition honors the more than three million Americans who served in the US armed forces in the Vietnam War and bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam,” said organizers of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Website.

The Wall replica was unveiled on Veterans Day 1996 and is designed to travel to communities across the country. Since then it has been exhibited in almost 700 locations.

Visitors to The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter replica of the Vietnam War Memorial, rub themselves off the wall.

Traveling with The Wall is a mobile education center where visitors can learn about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, and also see several traveling exhibits. Notable is the Local Hometown Heroes exhibit, which features photos of service members on The Wall who have listed their home in the area. There is also a collection of personal items left by visitors to the memorial in the country’s capital.

The Wall That Heals kicked off the tour in New Bern, North Carolina, in April 2021, and should make 28 stops before the tour ends in Murfreesboro, Tennessee next week.
